NAGERCOIL: Following the path of the Thirukkural, a Tamil Sangam literature, is the solution to terrorism and extremism, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay from Uttarakhand, who kicked-off his Thirukkural Thirupayanam rally from Kanyakumari on Sunday.
Tarun Vijay, along with Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP national secretary H Raja and senior leaders of the party and Tamil scholars paid floral tributes at the 133-foot high Thiruvalluvar statue in the mid-sea in Kanyakumari. Later, he addressed a gathering at Sanadhi Street in Kanyakumari before starting his rally.
None would as much love their language and culture as Tamil people do, said Tarun Vijay during his address. He added, “Swami Vivekananda had asked the young to rise for a new India, and I want Tamil brothers to rise for a new Tamil Nadu.”
Thiruvalluvar is not just a poet of Tamil Nadu, but Thiruvalluvar and Thirukkural should reach all north Indian houses and schools, said Tarun Vijay. Thiruvalluvar’s biography and Thirukkural are going to be taught at schools all over India, he said, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Cabinet Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani.
While Tarun Vijay talked about Thirukkural, Silapathikaram and other Tamil literatures in the Parliament, all political party representatives from Tamil Nadu including the DMK and the AIADMK stood and applauded him, he said.
